Slugging: back to the origins
The "slugging" trend is a skincare method that involves applying a layer of Vaseline or petroleum jelly to your face before bed to create a protective barrier and allow skincare products to penetrate your skin effectively. This new beauty hack is inspired by the Korean practice of "jamsu," which involves dipping your face in cold water to set your makeup. The term "slugging" comes from the English word "slug," which means "slug." It refers to the shiny, slimy appearance your skin gets after applying Vaseline.
The slugging method is said to deeply hydrate the skin, strengthen the skin barrier, and help prevent dehydration. It is said to be particularly suitable for dry or dehydrated skin, but can also benefit other skin types.

Good or bad thing?
In theory, slugging aims to deeply hydrate dry skin and is therefore a good technique. In fact, Vaseline remains quite controversial regarding its use on the face since it can be very comedogenic. In addition, Vaseline (although made from petroleum) has a strong regenerative capacity for the skin. It is also recommended to soothe and comfort the skin after a minor burn or for healing permanent eyebrow makeup (microblading) which is an invasive procedure on the skin. Applied to the lips, it works wonders to reduce chapping, on the décolleté it prevents sagging of the skin and in winter there is nothing like it on the skin of the body to prevent drying out.
But remember, it is important to note that the slugging method may not be suitable for everyone. People with acne-prone skin or various blemishes should definitely avoid using Vaseline on their face as it can clog pores and make skin problems worse. Also, it is recommended not to use the slugging method every night to avoid excessive product build-up on the skin!

How to apply slugging?
First of all, you have to remember that slugging is not a routine ritual but a one-off act! You're not going to do it every night, at the risk of suffocating your skin and having the completely opposite effect you wanted.
When you decide to apply slugging to your face, here are eight steps to follow:
- Cleanse and dry your face thoroughly to remove impurities and natural oils from the skin.
- Apply a face serum, dark circle serum and a light moisturizer to maximize the hydrating effect.
- Scoop a small amount of petroleum jelly or pharmaceutical grade petroleum jelly with your fingers or a clean spatula.
- Spread the product evenly over the entire face, avoiding the eye area. Make sure the layer is thick enough to completely cover the skin.
- Gently massage the skin to help the product penetrate.
- Leave the Vaseline or petroleum jelly on your face overnight.
- In the morning, cleanse your face with a mild cleanser to remove any remaining Vaseline or petroleum jelly.
- Apply a light moisturizer to protect skin throughout the day.
