Can you wear mascara after a lash lift?

Can you wear mascara after a lash lift?

Coralie Techer

To enhance your look and have doe eyes, eyelash enhancement already has many fans! This chemical technique lengthens eyelashes for a glamorous look, but does it allow you to continue wearing makeup? If you're wondering, you've come to the right place!

What exactly is eyelash enhancement?

To clarify, eyelash lifting is a beauty technique that involves giving a pronounced curve to the natural eyelashes (the upper lashes only) by curling them using a chemical solution. This technique is often used to create the appearance of longer and fuller lashes without resorting to eyelash extensions! It is ideal for those with long lashes, straight lashes, or damaged lashes.

  • How does a lift work? During the procedure, a chemical is applied to the lashes to soften and curl them, then a fixative is applied to maintain the curl. The process is generally painless and can take between 45 minutes to an hour and can be completed with a lash tint... The eyelash lift can last between 6 and 8 weeks before the lashes start to regain their natural curl. It is much more durable than an extension application! This technique is considered trouble-free, quick to perform and reliable. However, note (absolutely) that it is important to have it done by a qualified professional in order to minimize all risks and obtain the best possible results!

Please note that lifting is not the solution for short eyelashes, because it will not have the desired effect... If you have small eyelashes, opt for eyelash extensions with a natural effect.

Can you (still) wear makeup after an eyelash lift?

This may seem silly, but it is a completely valid question because it is recommended not to wear eyelash makeup for 24 hours after an eyelash lift. This allows the fixative to dry properly and maintain the curl of the lashes. After this period, it is generally possible to wear eyelash makeup normally, but it is important to take certain precautions to prolong the duration of the lift.

Waterproof mascara should be avoided to avoid dissolving the fixative. It is also important not to use an eyelash curler, as this can damage the curl of the lashes and cancel out the effects of the lift. It is recommended to carefully remove eye makeup every night to avoid the buildup of makeup residue that can weigh down the lashes and cause them to lose their curl.

In general, it is best to discuss post-procedure care and recommendations with your esthetician or beauty salon professional to achieve the best possible results.

What happens if you regularly apply eyelash lift makeup?

Regularly applying eyelash extensions can cause several side effects that are important to take into account in order to avoid ruining the application...

Alteration of the curvature of the eyelashes:

Repeated use of mascara, especially waterproof mascara, can cause your lashes to become heavy and lose their natural curl, thus cancelling out the effects of the lift. You can also opt for lash tinting (ask for a long-lasting tint) during the lift, this will give them an intense look and you can then do without mascara.

Weakening of eyelashes:

Regular makeup can also weaken lashes, as the process of removing makeup can make them brittle, more prone to breakage, and thinner.

Eye irritation:

Eye cosmetics can sometimes irritate the eyes, especially if they come into contact with the conjunctiva or eyelids. This can cause redness, itching, burning, or other eye irritations.

Please note that it is important to follow the recommendations of your beautician or beauty professional after an eyelash lift. The rules are not established by chance and allow you to maximize the results and avoid any unwanted effects.

Can you continue your usual beauty routine with an eyelash lift?

It is totally possible to continue with your usual beauty routine after an eyelash lift. You can even continue to apply your eyelash serum or eye contour treatment without any problem, but there are still a few small adaptations to take into account, such as:

  1. Avoid rubbing or pulling on your eyelashes, as this can cause them to fall out prematurely.

  2. Avoid getting your lashes wet for the first 24 hours after the procedure.

  3. Avoid using an oil or bi-phase makeup remover, as this can cancel out the lifting effect by breaking down the setting spray.

  4. Avoid eye cosmetics that contain harsh ingredients, as they can irritate the eyes and damage eyelashes.

  5. Use an oil-free, gentle, non-greasy makeup remover to remove eye makeup.

  6. Avoid sleeping on your stomach or side to avoid creasing your eyelashes!

  7. Apply light makeup, even if it means touching up your makeup several times a day.
