The essential steps of a good facial care routine

The essential steps of a good facial care routine

Coralie Techer

The facial routine is probably the most important moment of our beauty ritual. What are the essential steps not to be missed to ensure that it is properly respected? We tell you everything.

Makeup removal is essential!

For radiant skin and to prevent the appearance of imperfections, removing makeup is part of the daily beauty routine. This ultra-important step should never be missed! Indeed, it frees our skin from the dirt accumulated throughout the day and of course removes makeup to let the epidermis breathe and allow cells to renew themselves. This hygiene step ensures a refined skin texture, frees pores, eliminates dead cells, prevents excess sebum, impurities and premature wrinkles of damaged skin...

Also read our guide on Facial Yoga for an oval face and perfect skin! These exercises can be added in addition to a good cleansing routine for example.

We choose our makeup remover according to our skin type:

There are several types of makeup remover, so it's easy to get tangled up! To put all the chances on your side and ensure beautiful skin, we pay attention to choosing the makeup remover that best suits our skin type:

  • Micellar water is dedicated to all skin types but not mature skin! It is perfect for removing all impurities, but tends to dry out.
  • The cleansing milk is perfect for dry and sensitive skin. It allows for deep make-up removal, combining softness and hydration while nourishing the skin.
  • Makeup remover oil . Ideal for removing stubborn makeup, it quickly dissolves pigments. Makeup remover oil can be a simple vegetable oil, also excellent for nourishing the skin, it is applied with the finger in circular movements.
  • Cleansing creams are suitable for intolerant and reactive skin, they are less stripping and gently cleanse the skin.
  • Cleansing gel for oily and combination skin. This type of skin requires a two-step makeup removal: the first is to use a gentle makeup remover oil, then wash your face with a cleansing gel to remove makeup residue and excess oil.

How to really clean your skin properly?

Unlike the rest of the body, facial skin is constantly exposed to external aggressions such as dust, sun rays, pollution, cosmetics, etc. It's quite funny when you know that it is also the most fragile skin of the human body! To recover and not suffer the ravages of the outside, facial skin necessarily requires a very special and meticulous beauty ritual.

How do you always really clean your skin properly? The first thing to do is to wash your face with a cleansing gel that is suitable for your skin type. If you have dry skin, choose a gentle, non-oily cleanser. Ideally, neutral soap is a good base for all skin types. When you're used to wearing makeup, always do a double cleanse because some makeup products (like mascara or foundation) can be really stubborn! The trick to making sure your makeup is removed? Dry your face with a white towel.

To perfect the cleansing , we spray thermal water or floral water on the skin. With a cotton pad, we will soak the water and erase the last traces of dirt potentially still present but above all we will provide something to tighten the pores and tone the tissues. Indeed, even after removing make-up from the face we are not spared from residues invisible to the naked eye. Thermal water has the advantage of moisturizing, gently cleansing the skin and penetrating while respecting the natural skin barrier of the face.

How to have well-hydrated skin?

Hydration is the basis, both for the skin and for the proper functioning of the body. From the inside, as from the outside, it should not be taken lightly. Several studies have already shown that people who do not moisturize their skin daily develop wrinkles earlier than those who do... If good hydration involves the application of products such as a moisturizer and various treatments such as eye contour serums , it also involves a good diet. The quality of what we ingest is important, drinking water regularly during the day (at least 1L minimum), ensures a radiant complexion, smooth skin texture, plumped skin, reduced dark circles and perfectly elastic tissues!

Here is the list of foods that you can favor for beautiful hydrated skin:

Lipids for beautiful skin

Fatty acids hydrate the skin and protect it from external aggressions. The two main essential fatty acids to favor in the diet are linoleic acid and alpha linolenic acid. Omega-3s are an integral part of cell membranes, they are necessary for hydration as well as the elasticity of the skin. They also contribute to good cohesion between skin cells.

Where are they found? Lipids are mainly found in foods such as meat or fish, but they are also found in dairy products, eggs, cold cuts, avocados, olives, dried fruits, oils and margarines.

Fruits and vegetables

For a complete intake and nourished skin, it is essential to include fruits and vegetables in your diet. We prefer those rich in water! Why? For boosted internal hydration of course. As for vegetables, you can count on: cucumber, lettuce, tomato or even zucchini to provide you with the water you need. As for fruits, we focus on citrus fruits such as orange, mandarin, or nectarines such as peach, nectarine, and slightly more colorful fruits such as pineapple, watermelon, melon, papaya or even strawberry.

Vitamin “E”

Vitamin “E” is known for its antioxidant power. Its power is not new since many of our ancient civilizations already used it a lot to make their cosmetics! On the side of our plates, we find it in green vegetables, nuts and seeds, as well as in certain fruits. Vitamin E combines several actions rather favorable to the well-being of the body and the skin:

  • Anti-aging

Vitamin “E” is the vitamin of youth. It stimulates the production of collagen which is responsible for the elasticity of our skin, it fights free radicals responsible for hyperpigmentation and brown spots, and therefore fights against skin aging.

  • Restorative

Vitamin “E” has a regenerative superpower on the cells of skin tissues, hence its healing effect. Applied regularly to stretch marks, it helps to reduce them.

  • Nourishing

It is highly recommended for dry skin, given its moisturizing effect. It can be incorporated into your night cream to have a luminous complexion.

Don't neglect the facial serum

Creams and other cosmetic treatments such as lip balms, eyelash serums or anti-blemish products are obviously essential for a radiant and glowing complexion, but if there is one treatment that is best not neglected, it is the serum! You still need to know how to choose it.

What is a serum used for?

The serum is a fluid, its texture is lighter than a cream. It acts deep on the skin cells and prepares the epidermis for better absorption of creams.

The serum can be used for different kinds of skin problems, dull complexion, spots, acne scars, lack of tone or elasticity...

How to choose it?

For every problem, its serum! On the cosmetics market, there is a wide variety of serums that all correspond to a specific problem. Unlike facial creams that are chosen according to skin type, these are selected according to the imperfections that we want to treat. We therefore start by identifying the skin problems that bother us and then we choose our serum.

How to apply it?

The serum is always applied to clean, dry skin to get the most out of its benefits. Take two drops of serum and warm them between your hands to activate the active ingredients. Then apply it with a circular massage over the entire area of the face, avoiding the eye area which has its own dedicated treatment. The massage promotes better penetration of the serum but also boosts blood circulation. Which has the effect of improving the quality of the complexion!
