How to wash your eyelash extensions?

How to wash your eyelash extensions?

Coralie Techer

To keep your eyelash extensions as long as possible, it is important to take care of them. This includes a good regular cleaning! How to do it? We tell you everything.

Extensions are beautiful, they lengthen the eyelashes, they enlarge the eyes, they give a star look and above all they save us time in the morning in front of the mirror. As a reminder, extensions are synthetic eyelashes that we add individually to thicken the natural eyelashes. The application of extensions lasts one to two hours and the eyelashes last between one and two months. There are several styles of application, from the most natural to the most extravagant, all madness is allowed!

If we know how to install them (always by an approved specialist), we know a little less how to maintain them and above all we do not imagine that they need to be washed regularly and carefully in order to guarantee the best hold.

Why is it important to clean your eyelash extensions?

We clean our face every day, we remove our makeup after a long day, we pamper it to have healthy skin, it's normal. It's the same for eyelashes, especially when we put on extensions. Indeed, contrary to what you might think, it is totally recommended to clean your extensions, it would even allow a better hold! Synthetic eyelashes require care but are easy to clean, this important step is especially recommended to avoid possible infections linked to dust and bacteria that can settle on the extensions, but also to remove makeup (especially if you put on mascara) or to clean the accumulated sebum that can weigh down, or even cause the extensions to fall out prematurely.

How to properly clean your eyelash extensions?

Cleaning extensions must be thorough to avoid dropping them. To be sure to do it correctly, we (always) proceed in stages.

1 - Choose your detergent

Not all cleansers are good to use to clean your extensions. For example, we will avoid oil-based ones that could dissolve the glue and completely strip the eyelashes of their extensions. We therefore favor a foam-type cleanser, butter, cream or simply a mild facial soap. There are also specific cleanser for extensions, the best thing is to ask the specialist during the installation so that she can recommend the best cleanser depending on the extensions installed.

2 - The right actions to take

After choosing the right cleanser, you need to get down to business. To wash your eyelash extensions, you need to be gentle. Remember that the extensions are simply glued on and that a sudden movement can make them fall off. Avoid rubbing at all costs, proceed delicately by cleaning the eyelash area with your fingertips (from top to bottom), insisting slightly on the base of the eyelashes. It is best to avoid wipes and other fabrics because the fibers could get stuck in the eyelash glue and weaken their hold.

3 - Dry your extensions

Once the cleaning step is over, you now need to dry your extensions to prevent the water from weighing down the synthetic eyelash. How to do it? It's simple, gently dab the area with a towel (preferably microfiber) so that it can absorb the water. The other solution is to dry your eyelashes with a piece of tissue that you leave on your eyes for a few seconds, until the water is completely absorbed.

4 - Brush your extensions

This is a very serious matter! Eyelash extensions must be brushed daily to prevent several from getting tangled, taking a bad shape, or sagging. Brushing is done using a brush (sometimes it is given by the beautician at the end of the application) or an old, clean mascara brush. Brush the extensions as if you were applying mascara, always in the direction of the hair, upwards, from the base to the tip of the eyelash!

What you need to know to properly maintain your extensions

In summary, to keep beautiful extensions as long as possible, you have to clean them but also know how to maintain them. Keep these little tips in mind to keep the captivating look for as long as possible:

- Never put oil on the extensions
- Don't forget the waterproof mascara
- Don't rub your eyes!
- We favor clean makeup that respects the skin as much as possible.
- Brush your extensions daily to ensure they have a nice shape and hold well.
- We clean our extensions carefully.
- We continue to apply our eyelash regrowth serum ( as a treatment it is also possible) to keep our natural eyelashes in full health!
