Good tips for a fresh and rested look

Good tips for a fresh and rested look

Coralie Techer

Lack of sleep, stress and even a polluted environment can quickly alter the freshness of our complexion but also of our eyes... Bags, dark circles or fine lines, to say bye bye to them, discover our good tips!

1/ We hydrate, always and again

Hydration is the key word in beauty. The magic formula that has the answer to everything. Hydrating your skin is nourishing it, nourishing it is making it stronger. Particularly around the eyes, which are an organ that is used 24/7. We blink 15 times a minute (minimum), the muscles around the eyes are constantly active due to our expressions... Inevitably, this part of the face never rests. Nourished, the skin around the eyes will be more supple and will have a better chance of avoiding (or at least repelling) skin aging, fine lines, loss of elasticity and also depigmentation of dark circles. During morning care or before bed, remember to moisturize! With a cold-pressed vegetable oil (jojoba, avocado, hemp or borage), a serum or a contour cream that you will have been advised to do beforehand in a drugstore, beauty salon or perfumery. It should be added that good hydration of the skin also obviously involves water... At a rate of one to two liters per day to observe concrete effects.

2 / Cold, a valuable ally

Say thank you to the inventor of the refrigerator. In addition to allowing optimal preservation of our food, it also allows us to boost the active ingredients of some of our cosmetics and thus serves our beauty. For guaranteed efficiency, we create a small space in the fridge door to slip in creams, treatments and eye contour serums (see face). Another tip, well known but always good to remember, the cold spoon. In the evening before going to bed, we place two spoons in the refrigerator. When we wake up after having properly cleaned our face, we place a spoon on each eye. The cold metal instantly acts as a decongestant for puffy eyes since it reactivates blood circulation. Think smart: two slices of cucumber (naturally refreshing and full of water) in the freezer, two minutes of rest after a restless night, and there you have a totally rested and refreshed look!

3 / Three makeup tips to banish dull complexions

Even though we may give it an air of "pretense", makeup has the gift of saving the day when skincare can't do anything about it! After a sleepless night, we can slather our face with all the refreshing creams possible, but our complexion is not likely to magically brighten up. Fortunately, makeup exists and so do good tips:
  • Wake up your complexion. After applying a moisturizing base (it remains essential) we spread using a brush or a blender-type sponge, a light complexion unifier like a BB or CC cream. Above all, we forget the too covering baking-type foundation… Tired skin marks much more easily! To complete the complexion beauty, add a touch of corrector (or an anti-dark circles) to the dark circles and finish with a light veil of highlighter and blush.
  • Brighten up your eyes. Opt for a nude or slightly pearly eyeshadow that you will apply to the entire mobile eyelid. Preferably with a creamy texture so that it has a "natural" effect on the eyelid. Don't forget the touch of mascara by stretching the eyelashes towards the outer corners to enlarge the eyes as much as possible!
  • Bet on a delicious smile. A light look, a sunny face and a passionate mouth! A beautiful sparkling pink or a deep red can quickly distract you when your eyes are tired.

4 / Eye Gym to reactivate the muscles

But what is it? Yes, eye gymnastics really does exist and it is even highly recommended to reactivate blood circulation that slows down during the night. To be done as soon as you wake up, this unusual sport gently awakens the 22 eye muscles.  How to do it? Simply by rolling your eyes, three times to the right, three times to the left. Three times up, three times down.

5 / Soothe the eyes with floral waters

After a night of full moon or insomnia, we wake up with tired, puffy or crushed eyes... To remedy this, nothing beats floral waters or hydrosols. The idea is to calm the tense muscles of the eyes that have suffered from a night of activity, chamomile or cornflower floral waters are known to be decongestant. Combine this with the freshness of a night in the fridge and there you have a miracle cure for refreshed eyes in less than two! How do you do it? Apply floral water (preferably chamomile or cornflower for a tenfold decongestant effect) to two reusable cotton pads, leave on each eye for about two minutes. Repeat the operation for up to ten minutes if necessary! Note that some stores even sell relaxation masks impregnated with small relaxing lavender or other beads to soothe and banish eye fatigue. Ideal!

6 / Massage your face!

This gesture should be done daily (even after a good night!), facial massage helps maintain good skin elasticity, firm contours, plump cheeks and optimal blood circulation! The gesture is simple and you can use accessories such as Gua Sha or roll on. After applying your oil or day cream, gently and circularly massage your skin to make your treatment penetrate as well as possible (from the chin to the ears). For a relaxed face, gently pinch the skin starting between the eyebrows and continuing to the end of their line (towards the outside of the face). To eliminate bags, lightly tap under the eyes from the outside to the inside. In addition, gently pinch (at least three times) the skin on the side of each eye. These two repeated actions will have the particularity of reactivating blood circulation under the eyes and restoring color to the dark circles that we do not want!

7 / Close… your eyes!

Last tip and not least, just give yourself some time to disconnect from the outside world. Even a small amount is important. Closing your eyes for a few seconds (or a minute if you can afford it) activates the parasympathetic nervous system (the relaxation system) and allows for self-drainage. Add to that three big, deep breaths and you're fresh and refreshed again!
