Get beautiful skin with the facial sauna
Coralie Techer
The easy sauna, steam bath or facial sauna, consists of deeply cleaning your face using water vapor... How to do it at home? We tell you everything.
Facial Sauna is a beauty method and treatment technique based on the principle that hot water vapor is excellent for taking care of our skin. The technique is not new, and Asian countries have been using it for a long time.
In the West, it is increasingly popular and is usually offered in beauty salons. However, for some time now, brands have been offering devices that allow you to do it at home. The idea? To give your face a sauna ritual, with a totally targeted hot steam bath, in order to rid it of encrusted impurities.

Facial sauna and steam bath what is the difference?
The Facial Sauna is a device whose technology is patented. It is completely inspired by the steam bath which can be done at home with extreme caution, over a pan of boiling water (when cooking pasta for example...). Obviously the second method can be a little dangerous!
The Facial Sauna acts as a skin purifier with the safety of an approved device. Its nano care technology facilitates the penetration of water vapor in depth. In reality, this mechanism creates nano particles of steam, 8000 times smaller than the water vapor generated by a simple steam bath! The device therefore allows a better efficiency than its manual ancestor. It delicately opens the pores, dislodges impurities and allows easier impregnation of skincare treatments at home.
How to use the Facial Sauna at home?
Brands of technological beauty devices now offer so-called "nomadic" devices to perform your own Facial Sauna at home. Before using the sauna, you must make sure to prepare your skin, that is to say, make sure it is clean! We therefore think about cleaning, delicate and precise with a suitable soap or washing product.
The Facial Sauna has a tip that fits the shape of the face, so the idea is to place your face on it and activate the steam process. The treatment lasts about 15 to 20 minutes, the timing can be adjusted according to your needs. Ideal for mature skin, it is suitable for all skin types except those with serious skin problems!
Good to know: Combination to oily skin can afford regular use once or twice a week. But be careful, sensitive skin or dry skin will be satisfied with only once a month. The Facial Sauna is definitely not recommended for those suffering from bruises, psoriasis or eczema. Why? The Facial Sauna stimulates blood flow via water vapor, an effect that is best avoided for this type of problem.

Essential oils in action
The Facial Sauna uses water vapor, of course, but its cleansing action can be combined with the purifying and soothing action of essential oils depending on these little skin concerns! There is nothing better for the skin than being pampered in depth by the miraculous action of essential oils.
Tea Tree essential oil to purify and remove stubborn blemishes (ideal for acne). Grapefruit essential oil for its astringent action, ylang-ylang essential oil to soothe... There is an oil for every problem but before using it, it is necessary to check its dosage or ask the sales specialist for advice.
What about the steam bath?
The facial sauna has a certain cost, between 30 and 130 euros for the most efficient devices. This is a budget that we cannot necessarily all afford, the steam bath remains the most economical solution.
But be careful, it requires you to stay vigilant because your face is then above a container of boiling water. The steam bath has age-old virtues, it opens the pores in order to clean them, stimulates the blood circulation of the face (for a radiant complexion), prevents imperfections (blackheads and pimples), and prepares the skin for care in an optimal way.
Note that it also acts on health, since it is customary to use it to soothe or even eliminate a cold. The steam soothes the mucous membranes.
How to make a facial steam bath?
What we need for this facial sauna: a pot, a towel, essential oils and some aromatic herbs. Before the steam bath, you can proceed with a gentle facial scrub to remove dead skin and prepare the skin for deep cleansing.
At home, comfortably installed, we prepare a liter of water boiled beforehand on the fire or in the kettle, which we pour into a pot or a saucepan. We add essential oils (as seen previously) or aromatic herbs like lavender, thyme or even rosemary...

Just like for the Facial Sauna, make sure your skin is sufficiently cleansed before using the facial steam bath. Let the mixture of oils and herbs infuse for a while. Once the steam seems at the right temperature (it should not be too hot to avoid burns), create an enclosed space between the pan and your face using the towel by placing it on your head. Lean your face over the bowl (30 centimeters maximum) and enjoy this spa moment at home for about 20 minutes. In addition to being good for your skin, the steam emanation of herbs and oils is also excellent for your respiratory tract.
And after? Once the steam bath has played its purifying role, it's time to take advantage of it to apply your care and allow the active ingredients to penetrate deeply. We then apply our usual cosmetic care routine. First, we put on a mask if we feel that the skin needs it. We then apply a pressure of floral water to tone the skin! Then we move on to the facial serum, eye contour serum (essential to prevent or remove dark circles and bags ), day cream or even an eyelash or eyebrow growth serum !
Just like the Facial Sauna, the steam bath can be done once or twice a week for oily to combination skin, only once or twice a month for sensitive skin and should not be used on skin suffering from eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and other skin problems with raw skin.
