How to clean your false eyelashes at home?
Coralie Techer
To maintain your false eyelashes and ensure they last a long time, you need to clean them! How can you do it without fail at home? We explain the steps to follow.
More and more of us are wearing them, false eyelashes (or synthetic eyelashes) are part of the daily life of a good part of the beauty routine. They give panache and offer an intense look to those who have natural eyelashes that are a little too short. But do we really have the right reflexes when it comes to their maintenance? If many have long considered false eyelashes as a single-use beauty accessory, brands are increasingly insisting on the fact that they can be reused several times without problem, as long as we know how to maintain them. And this is rather good news especially when we pay a certain price for them. Whether they are magnetic, magnetized, water or glue, false eyelashes must all respect one and the same golden rule: to be cleaned!

Eyelash Cleaning: Making Sure You Have the Right Products
Before you start cleaning your false eyelashes, you need to make sure you have the right products and equipment available. For successful cleaning, you need a special eye makeup remover, alcohol (90°), makeup remover pads, a cotton swab, a clean brush and tweezers.
Step one: put yourself in the right conditions
Now that your equipment is ready, before you start cleaning your false eyelashes, make sure your hands are clean. Any hygiene gesture performed with your hands must be done in good conditions. Remember that false eyelashes come into contact with your eyes, the most fragile area of the human body, so it is essential that they are properly cleaned. Wash your hands with a neutral soap and thus avoid any risk of eye infection.
Step two: remove your false eyelashes
Effective cleaning follows the removal of false eyelashes. Make sure to gently remove your false eyelashes, without risk of hurting yourself or damaging the adhesive strip! Also check that there is no trace of glue left on your natural eyelashes or on the adhesive strip. If this is the case, pass the cotton swab soaked in 90° alcohol over the adhesive strip, this should allow the glue residue to be eliminated once and for all but also to sanitize the eyelashes and allow good reuse. As for the natural eyelash area, you can use tweezers to remove the remains of glue. If it is magnetic false eyelashes or magnetic eyelashes, just be careful not to damage the magnetic points to facilitate reuse.

Step 3: Clean the false eyelashes
Now that the false eyelashes are removed, we can get down to cleaning them properly. Remember that this is a delicate accessory that requires gentle treatment. Pour some special eye makeup remover (preferably oil-based) into a small container. Dip the strip of eyelashes in it (very briefly), then pass a cotton swab or a clean cotton pad over the false eyelashes soaked in makeup remover to make the product work well. The latter will eliminate makeup residue (such as eye shadow) on the synthetic strands, but also remove dirt accumulated throughout the day. Now that this is done, you can let the eyelashes air dry on a tissue. Once the eyelashes are dry, brush them using the small clean brush so that they keep a nice shape.
Once you have finished cleaning, always make sure to store your false eyelashes in their original box, this will keep them dry and of course keep them for as long as possible.
What are the risks of improper cleaning of false eyelashes?
It is better to avoid experimenting with it. Dirty false eyelashes can lead to more or less serious eye infections. The eye area is an extremely fragile area, if false eyelashes are not properly cleaned they can be vectors of bad bacteria. Always remain extremely vigilant about the cleanliness of your false eyelashes, it is a matter of the health of your eyes! If you are the absent-minded type and cleaning risks (very often) going over your head, opt for more natural methods to lengthen your eyelashes! For example, rely on an eyelash growth serum , the effects are visible after a month (but you can also opt for treatments lasting up to six months ) and you also keep the appearance of your natural eyelashes.
