How to properly pluck your eyebrows yourself?

How to properly pluck your eyebrows yourself?

Coralie Techer

Eyebrows are probably the most important element for a harmonious face. In order not to miss their hair removal at home, follow these valuable tips.

As we like to tell you, eyebrows must be taken seriously. These two lines of expression that frame the eyes are absolutely essential to the harmony of the face! If we like them full, even bushy for a few years, it is no less important to maintain them in a salon or at home.

Eyebrow hair removal, a manipulation to prepare for

If the practice is rather quick and seems simple to do in an institute, eyebrow hair removal requires a certain dexterity and above all to be well prepared since it takes place in different essential stages to have a satisfactory result. Fortunately there is a very simple method to allow you to obtain the ideal line!

Before you start, make sure you have what you need on hand: tweezers, a pencil (stick or straw), a brush or eyebrow brush, a pair of scissors.

Step 1: Define the start and arch of the eyebrow

Eyebrows are naturally arched. Sometimes the arch is more or less marked depending on the natural implantation of the hairs but also the morphology of each person. It can also be completely erased due to excess hair.

The easiest way to draw your arch is to use a pencil, a stick or a straw (any long and thin object). Place the pencil or stick in the axis that connects the inner corner of the eye and the base of the nostril. This imaginary line will define the beginning of the eyebrow, if there are hairs that protrude from this line, they must be plucked. To find the starting point of the arch, move the pencil so that it passes through the center of the pupil. Its arrival point at the eyebrows will be exactly where its arch will take shape. Be careful not to overdo the hair removal of the arch, it is better to avoid the circumflex accent effect which gives a permanent circumspect air...

Step 2: Define the outer limit of the eyebrow

An extended eyebrow is not always what you need for a harmonious line! To define the outer limit of the eyebrow, we use the pencil process (stick or straw). We always place the pencil at the base of the nostril but this time we will align it with the outer corner of the eye. Its arrival point at the eyebrow level will delimit the end of the latter. If your original line exceeds the pencil, the hairs must be plucked.

This technique allows for eyebrows that perfectly frame the eyes! Once the hairs that extend beyond the defined points are well plucked, you can perfect the hair removal by cutting the hairs that are too long to create a perfect line. To do this, brush the hairs upwards; those that extend a little too far beyond the line can be cut using small scissors.

How to prepare your skin for hair removal?

Plucking your eyebrows is not always a pleasure. In addition to the fear of having a heavy hand on the hairs to be removed, the action is not always pleasant. Plucking hairs, whether it is with thread, wax or tweezers, can hurt. Particularly on the face where the skin is the thinnest on the body.

To avoid this moment being too unpleasant, you need to prepare your skin. Before proceeding with hair removal, don't hesitate to put a hot compress on your skin, or even take a hot shower. The water and steam from the hot water will soften the skin and open the pores! This allows the hair to be removed much more easily.

Different methods of hair removal at home

While the most common method is tweezers, eyebrow hair removal at home can be done in different ways. The best thing to do is to try them all before choosing the one that suits you best!

Eyebrow waxing

Waxing is a common method in salons. It requires a certain amount of dexterity, with it, you can quickly come close to disaster! We advise you to draw your line with a pencil before applying the wax, this will allow you to delimit the area that should not be touched. You then place the wax on the hairs that exceed the line and that's it. Be careful, on the face it is better to use a warm wax, or even a cold wax, in order to avoid any risk of burning.

Eyebrow plucking with tweezers

The simplest and least expensive method since tweezers can be kept for years! As with wax, we recommend that you draw your line with a pencil before starting hair removal. This allows for a precise look at the areas that need to be removed. To avoid ingrown hairs, the hair should always be removed in the direction of its growth.

Eyebrow threading

This is probably the most difficult method to use, but once you have mastered it, threading (a technique from India and Asia) allows you to have ultra-clean and well-defined eyebrows. Threading removes the hair precisely and efficiently, with this method it grows back more slowly! You need to be trained in this method before trying it at home, but the best thing to do is to have it done in a beauty salon!

After-hair removal care

Now that your eyebrows are perfectly waxed, don't hesitate to take care of them! For the aesthetic side, you can brush them (always upwards) and fix them with special eyebrow gel to give them a "brow-up" effect . You can also have fun applying makeup to emphasize their intensity. For care, don't hesitate to apply a moisturizer and an eye contour serum after waxing (regardless of the technique used), finish with an eyebrow serum , this will allow the hairs to remain strong and healthy.

The ultimate solution: opt for permanent hair removal

Permanent eyebrow hair removal refers to techniques that aim to permanently remove unwanted eyebrow hair. There are several methods to achieve this, but it is important to note that not all methods are necessarily suitable for the delicate eyebrow area. Here are some of the most common options for permanent eyebrow hair removal:

  1. Electrolysis: Electrolysis is a permanent hair removal method that uses an electric current to destroy hair follicles. A thin wire is inserted into each hair follicle, and an electric current is applied to destroy them. This can be effective for eyebrows, but caution is required due to the proximity to the eyes.

  2. Laser: Laser hair removal is a popular method for permanently removing hair. A beam of laser light targets the melanin (pigment) in hair follicles, causing them to die. This method can be effective for eyebrows, but requires great precision to avoid touching the sensitive areas around the eyes.

  3. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL): IPL is similar to laser but uses a wider range of light wavelengths. As with laser, IPL can be used to remove eyebrow hair, but specific expertise is required to avoid eye risks.

  4. Thermolysis and electrocoagulation: These methods use heat to destroy hair follicles. They can be effective for eyebrow hair removal, but as with other methods, caution should be exercised to avoid eye hazards.

Choosing a qualified and experienced professional for any permanent hair removal procedure is crucial, especially when treating an area as delicate as your eyebrows. For perfect brows, make sure the practitioner has the expertise to work safely around the eye area. Before making a decision, educate yourself on the pros, cons, and potential risks of each method, and discuss with a health or beauty professional to determine which option might be best for you.
