The different types of false nails: gel, capsule and resin
If in the 2000s, stick-on false nails were all the rage, nowadays the methods are more extensive and slightly more sophisticated. In addition to the stick-on model which is still part of the top 10 (so practical), there are also different ways to apply what are called false nails. Institutes have seized on the phenomenon and offer several styles of application:
Gel false nails
This application is usually done in an institute or at home by a professional. It consists of applying a stretchable gel to the original nail. The gel will then take the shape and length desired by the client, once the expected result is achieved it is dried under a UV/LED lamp (as for semi-permanent varnish) and finished by covering it with varnish to embellish it. These false nails can last between 3 and 4 weeks.
False nails in capsules
Unlike gel, capsule false nails are capsules that are already ready to stick on short nails. They can be found in specialty stores or supermarkets, they are the new version of the stick-on false nails that we loved to wear when we were little! Of varying lengths and shapes, some are varnished and decorated and allow you to switch up your looks at will. Capsule false nails should be used occasionally to prevent the glue and capsule from suffocating the nail. However, they have the advantage of being reusable! They are ideal for a pretty one-off manicure.

Resin false nails
This is probably the least used process, it is quite old and its result is now coarser than these two competitors! The resin also has the disadvantage of yellowing the nail after application and therefore damaging it much more than the application of gel or capsules.

How to carefully remove false nails yourself?
Since nothing is eternal in life, there comes a time when you have to part with your false nails! Just like when you remove semi-permanent varnish , removing false nails allows your natural nails to breathe. In fact, between each application, it is better to give yourself one or two months of breathing space to allow your nails to renew themselves in a healthy way. If you have the time and the means, nothing beats professional removal at a salon! However, it is possible to do it at home, always following the rules of the art so as not to damage your nails.
What should you absolutely avoid to avoid damaging your nails when removing false nails?
When removing false nails, it is essential to take precautions to avoid damaging the natural nails.
Here are some pitfalls to avoid to best protect your nails:
Avoid sharp or pointed tools: When working on removing artificial nails, avoid using sharp or pointed tools that could scratch or damage the surface of your natural nails. Instead, use gentle tools, such as a cuticle stick or plastic cuticle pusher, to lift the artificial nails.
Don't file too aggressively: When filing away glue or nail polish residue after removing artificial nails, be careful not to file too aggressively or excessively. Limit the filing to the area necessary to remove the remaining glue without damaging the top layer of the natural nail. It is best to use an electric file that has settings that can provide light but effective filing.
Avoid harsh products: Some nail polish removers contain harsh ingredients like acetone. While acetone can be effective at dissolving glues used for fake nails, excessive exposure to the product can weaken and dry out natural nails. Use acetone-based removers sparingly, and be sure to moisturize your nails after removal!
Don't neglect hydration: After removing fake nails, make sure to moisturize your nails and cuticles regularly with a moisturizer or nail-specific oil. This will help maintain the health and flexibility of your natural nails.
Removing gel false nails
Contrary to what you might think, removing gel false nails is quite simple. Although it is recommended to go to a salon for a complete removal and a deep cleaning, gel false nails can be removed at home. Using a nail file, simply file down what is left of the length and dilute the gel residue with a nail polish remover. Once the slightest residue has been removed, remember to nourish and care for your nail with a greasy oil and finish by applying a special strengthening nail treatment.
Remove false nail capsules
Capsule false nails are easy to remove but require care to avoid damage caused by the glue! To properly remove your capsule false nails, it is best to cut them rather short to make them easier to remove (be careful, if you want to reuse them, avoid this method), then dip your fingers in a bowl of nail polish remover (the glue is soft, acetone is not necessary) for about ten minutes. The nail polish remover will gently dissolve the glue that holds the capsule on the nail. This method allows you to gently remove the false nails and does not damage the natural nails underneath.
Removing false resin nails
Removing resin false nails is almost the same as removing gel false nails. File the resin to remove as much as possible, then soak your fingers in a bowl of acetone nail polish remover to remove any residue. If the resin resists, use a cuticle pusher to scrape off the remains.
After each of these removals, it is essential to take care of your nails. Once the glue, gel and resin residues are well removed from the nail, we arm ourselves with a fatty vegetable oil and we will massage each nail carefully in order to impregnate the treatment. We continue with a special hand moisturizer that will soften and nourish the skin, essential after the acetone and nail polish remover bath! Finally, we finish by applying a strengthening nail serum intended to restore all their shine and vigor for impeccable nails!
How to take care of your nails after removing false nails?
After removing false nails, your natural nails can be weakened and then require specific care to recover. Here are some tips to take care of your nails and get a fabulous manicure:
-
Moisturize regularly: Use a nail-specific moisturizer or cuticle oil to nourish and moisturize your natural nails. Apply it daily with a gentle massage to improve blood circulation and promote healthy nails.
-
Avoid harsh products: Avoid harsh chemicals, such as nail polish removers that contain acetone, which can dry out your nails. Instead, opt for non-acetone removers or gentler products.
-
Limit the use of nail polish: Give your nails a break by avoiding frequent application of nail polish immediately after removing the fake nails. Let them breathe and recover for some time. If you want to use nail polish, choose gentle formulas and make sure to remove the nail polish properly without scraping the nail surface.
-
Trim and file your nails properly: Trim your nails to the desired length with appropriate scissors or nail clippers. File them gently with a nail file to achieve the desired shape. Avoid filing too aggressively, as this can weaken the nails.
-
Protect your nails: When doing household chores or crafts, wear gloves to protect your nails from chemicals, hot water, and impact. This will help prevent brittleness and breakage of your nails.
-
Eat a balanced diet: A healthy, balanced diet promotes overall health, including the health of your nails. Make sure to eat foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and proteins to maintain strong, healthy nails.
-
Consult a professional if necessary: If you notice persistent problems, such as weak, brittle or discolored nails, consult a dermatologist or nail specialist for an examination and further advice.
