What is dark circle lipofilling?
Coralie Techer
Dark circles are the physical result of an altered lifestyle or a genetic factor that we cannot control... If they are not serious, their aesthetic aspect can create complexes. Thanks to lipofilling we can say goodbye to them!
While it is completely natural to accept yourself as you are, it is also a good thing to be able to change what does not suit you. Where creams, sports and massage exercises are no longer enough, cosmetic surgery (invasive and non-invasive) offers many possibilities to shape your appearance as you wish. This is particularly the case for dark circles! These tinted, hollow or bulging marks under the eyes tend to create complexes in people who suffer from them. If most of the time, dark circles appear after a bad night or following some excesses in terms of lifestyle (alcohol, tobacco, excess sugar or fat), they are also the cause of genetic factors in some people. In these cases, even a good night's rest and three layers of makeup will not be able to do anything about it... Fortunately, for people whose cause is genetic, there are several aesthetic and surgical ways to remove dark circles ! Hyaluronic acid filling is therefore recommended for people looking to fill hollow dark circles. However, this option is temporary. For a definitive result, it is better to turn to lipostructure or lipofilling.

What is dark circle lipofilling?
Technically, lipofilling or lipostructure as it is also called, is a method of filling hollow dark circles in aesthetic medicine. In order to fill the hollow of the dark circles in the most natural way possible, the surgeon will use the patient's own fat extracted from an area of his body (love wrists, thighs) in small quantities, to reinject it into the hollow of the dark circle (we count 1ml of fat for each dark circle). Note that the fat is purified in the centrifuge before the fat injection.
The result? The hollow area that separates the eye from the cheekbone regains its curve, this has the effect of re-harmonizing the entire face and giving it a boost. But be careful, since it involves a fat graft, lipofilling is a real surgical procedure (like liposuction) that requires hospitalization, unlike filling dark circles with hyaluronic acid which is quickly performed in the office.
What steps should be taken for lipofilling?
Since it is a rather heavy surgical procedure, lipofilling requires rigorous monitoring before and after the operation. Beforehand, medical examinations are to be planned with the surgeon in order to establish the patient's expectations and explain in detail the progress of their surgery. An appointment with an anesthesiologist is also to be planned, the latter will draw up a blood test to check that everything is going well (coagulation parameters) for the practice of a surgical operation. For smokers, be aware that it is strongly recommended to stop smoking one month before the operation because smoking could complicate the taking of the graft. The same goes for taking anti-inflammatories which must be stopped 10 days before the operation.
How does a lipofilling session for dark circles take place?
For a peaceful practice of lipofilling, the patient is hospitalized under local anesthesia. The fat is then extracted using a fine cannula at the area chosen during medical examinations (thighs for women or love handles for men, these areas often being the richest in fat in the body). The operation is quick but requires meticulousness! Once this fat is extracted, it is cleaned using a centrifuge which will rid it of toxins and bad fats, once purified, 1ml is injected on each side of the dark circles. The operation is done on an outpatient basis, the patient is therefore released the same day but may suffer from slight pain and social exclusion for a few days.
How much does lipofilling cost?
The cost of under-eye lipofilling can vary depending on several factors, including the geographic region, the reputation of the plastic surgeon, the complexity of the procedure, the clinic where it is performed and the surgeon's fees. But generally speaking, it ranges from 2,000 to 4,000 euros or even 8,000 euros in some countries.
Follow-up after the lipofilling session?
A follow-up is strongly recommended following lipofilling. This is also the case for any surgical operation, the result is never 100% guaranteed. As explained by the office of Dr. Lemaire (plastic surgeon), some of the grafted fat cells may not survive and the lipofilling must then be retouched. To ensure this, a follow-up for three months following the operation is recommended. If a second session is necessary, it should be the last and the hollow circles are then supposed to disappear permanently.

The expected result after lipofilling
Even though it is a major operation (local anesthesia and hospitalization), lipofilling has the advantage of offering a definitive result! Unlike hyaluronic acid injections which only provide a temporary result, lipofilling or lipostructure promises to no longer have to worry about these dark circles after the operation. The first definitive results are visible after three months (this is the time needed for the graft to settle in properly), during this period of time it is not impossible to observe hematomas on the eyelids or fat deposits (which very often lead to the second session). But don't panic, these small inconveniences disappear very quickly (between 8 to 10 days for bruises) and leave room for a smooth and filled area, to the patient's great delight.
What beauty routine should I adopt after the operation?
To optimize the effects of the operation and slow down skin aging, we do not hesitate to rely on a good beauty routine! We use treatments that will deeply hydrate and nourish the epidermis, such as an eye contour for example. The ROSEGOLD eye contour serum can be a good complement to provide the skin with all the elasticity it needs. It is applied morning and evening by lightly tapping with the fingers to allow the active ingredients to penetrate into the heart of the epidermis. If convincing results are assured after a month, it is also possible to apply the ROSELIFT serum as a treatment in order to optimize its effects as much as possible.
Can there be complications following dark circle lipofilling?
As with any surgical procedure, there is no such thing as zero risk. Minor complications can occur following lipofilling, it is better to be aware of them in order to better understand the situation. Several scenarios are possible: the grafted fat can migrate too close to the skin and create small, visible and unsightly balls. This case is rather rare, because the fat treated in a centrifuge before injection ensures good graft uptake. It is also possible to observe a sagging of the fat following sudden weight loss. Conversely, weight gain can alter the appearance of the filling by making it more rounded, which will have the effect of creating a bag under the eyes...
