Black seed oil, a beauty booster for our hair

Black seed oil, a beauty booster for our hair

Coralie Techer

Less known than its sisters coconut oil and castor oil, black seed oil is no less effective in caring for our hair. Zoom in on this natural treasure that is still too underestimated.

When it comes to beauty, natural vegetable oils and essential oils are our friends for life. Used since the dawn of time for preparations intended to take care of our skin, hair or nails, natural oils are extracted from plants, roots, seeds (nigella, sesame, grape seed, etc.) or even flowers.

What is black seed vegetable oil?

Nigella oil, also called black cumin, Venus hair or Poivrette, is originally a seed from an aromatic tree located in the Mediterranean region. Small but powerful, nigella seeds have been renowned for thousands of years in Eastern countries.

Legend has it that in Ancient Egypt, it was even called the gold of the Pharaohs. It seems that healers of the time frequently used it to treat all sorts of ailments and to best preserve the health of important people. On the beauty side, black cumin also had its own reputation. It was among these ladies that black cumin oil was in high demand. Queen Nefertiti herself made it her favorite beauty ingredient to reveal the radiance of her almost perfect complexion.

How is black seed oil obtained?

Extracted from an oilseed, black seed oil is obtained by cold pressing. Once the oil is obtained, its color is yellow/green or even amber, its composition is high in essential fatty acids.

What are the benefits of black seed oil for hair?

If it works miracles on the skin, black seed oil is also excellent for preserving the health of hair and its beauty capital. The benefits of this vegetable oil are legion:

  • Anti-fall
  • Helps with regrowth (in particular, it helps to accelerate the regrowth of hair which is sometimes slow)
  • Strengthens hair
  • Softens strands
  • Regulates sebum
  • Eliminates dandruff by treating the scalp
  • Slows down the process of white hair
  • Brings shine and radiance
  • Protects the hair fiber from external aggressions

How can one oil have so many benefits?

It's simple, the composition of black seed oil is quite extraordinary. Rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6, unsaturated fatty acids, antioxidants, natural essential oils, minerals and vitamins, it is a real regenerating, purifying and stimulating cocktail for our body. Black seed oil nourishes in depth. When used on the scalp, it will penetrate the superficial layer of the skin to nourish the hair bulb in order to bring them all these benefits. This deep action will also help to avoid the catastrophe of baldness or any hair loss. As we will have understood, this black gold is the ideal friend of those who wish to restore vigor, shine and strength to their hair!

What are the benefits for the skin?

We cannot talk about black seed oil without mentioning its benefits for our skin. Applied to the skin, black seed oil softens and nourishes the epidermis by providing it with a good dose of lipids (which limits the loss of water and therefore hydration). It is very effective for:

  • problem skin (acne, irritation, eczema, psoriasis)
  • dry skin (intense and deep hydration)
  • mature skin (anti-wrinkle, fights against skin aging).
  • Healing
  • softening
  • invigorating

How to use black seed oil to have beautiful hair?

Recipes, precautions to take and good advice, we tell you everything to best use black seed oil for your hair.

Black seed oil is very good for external use to take care of hair. But for greater effectiveness it is recommended to combine this external use with internal use! How? In pharmacies or drugstores it is possible to buy organic black seed powder or in capsule form as a food supplement, which you will ingest as a treatment. You can also add a few drops to your dishes (as a spice) but be careful, its use should not be daily. If this is the case then it will be done as a treatment, no more than 12 weeks. Before any consumption, ask the pharmacist for advice!

Recipes for a black seed hair mask:

  • Oil bath: Ideal for dry, dull or brittle hair, a bath or soup of black seed oil is probably the easiest way to make our hair benefit from all the benefits of this miracle seed. Quite simply, we will soak the hair in the oil, insisting on the scalp. To allow the oil to soak in deeply, we will massage in circular motions with our fingertips for a few seconds. To distribute the oil over the lengths, we do not hesitate to style vigorously using a wide-toothed comb. For radical effectiveness, we leave it on all night, the hair wrapped in a satin bonnet or in a hot towel.
  • The effective hair regrowth mask: when coconut oil and black seed oil meet, it works miracles. Coconut oil to cleanse and black seed oil to nourish. This mask is ideal for boosting hair regrowth. Mix two tablespoons of black seed oil and two tablespoons of coconut oil, for even more effectiveness, mix three essential drops of Ylang Ylang (excellent for shine and strengthening hair). Apply to dry hair and leave on for at least 30 minutes, but obviously the longer the better! Rinse with lukewarm water.

How often should you make these masks?

Around once a month or more depending on the need. Very damaged hair can benefit from it once a week, for example! A good treatment never hurts.

For even more beautiful hair, black seed oil can be combined with the use of a growth serum such as ROSEHAIR serum from ROSEGOLD. Rich in biotin, it is specially designed to accelerate regrowth by acting naturally on the scalp.

Can you use black seed oil to speed up eyelash growth?

Since it greatly helps the well-being of hair (which are hairs like our eyelashes), we are entitled to wonder if black seed oil is also effective for the regrowth and beauty of eyelashes! However, this natural oil is not specifically recommended for this use. For the beauty of eyelashes, it is better to trust castor oil or even the ROSELASH serum from ROSEGOLD, a special eyelash serum (2023 beauty prize) which also acts naturally and helps eyelash growth.

What precautions should be taken with black seed oil?

It is a natural product, but black seed oil still requires some precautions:

  • Black seed oil should be avoided by pregnant women.
  • Be careful not to exceed the expiration date.
  • Contact with mucous membranes should be avoided.
  • If in doubt about its use, seek professional advice.
  • We make sure to choose an organic oil with first cold pressing.
